Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
