The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
